Pit

Phasing

The only material culture recovered were four Roman pot sherds. Apart from being sealed by spit 012AD00506, the feature had no other stratigraphic relationships

Discussion

This was a small, shallow pit, which contained a single fill (012AD00866), a sandy loam (Munsell coilour 10YR 4/2) with 10-20% chalk inclusions. Both daub and charcoal flecking were present. It is in a line with stone setting 012AD00833 and with pit 012AD00869, indicating that it may be the remnants of a large post hole rather than a pit.

The feature was cut into angular chalk with a U-shaped profile, and was plough truncated.
