Pit

Phasing

The only diagnostic find was a single sherd of late Romano-British pottery. Apart fom being sealed by spit 012AD08743, the feature had no other stratigraphic relationships.

Discussion

This very shallow feature (although classified as a pit, it could have been just a shallow depression), was located in the southern central part of area 12AD. Its fill was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), with 15% chalk inclusions 0.5-1.5cm in diameter. No daub or charcoal flecking were noted.

The feature was cut into hillwash, with a wide U profile.
