Phasing

 The relationship with enclosure ditches 012AD00768 and 012AD00797  was not established, although it seems most likely that this is a later event, as it is similar in character and fill to many demonstrably later slots Plan of the later slots in the immediate area. Having said this, the only pottery recovered were three late Roman potsherds.

Discussion

A short, east-west aligned linear slot with a post hole (012AD00997) located in the western end. The fill was a sandy clay loam, slightly darker (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2) than most of the fills of the other features in the immediate area. This was due to the high charcoal content within the fill, which had a 5% chalk inclusion rate. The fill also contained a high number of daub fragments, as well as a small iron hook.

Of the animal bones recovered, most were cattle, with sheep/goat, pig and some domestic fowl also represented. All of the bones were from the legs or hooves of the animals.
