Discussion

A terrace was noted running east-west across the central part of area 2DC, and the fill (generally a hillwash, with occasional chalk inclusions) was removed in a number of arbitrary spits. This the final of three spits removed from the central part of the terrace. When analysed, it appears that the terrace begins to fill during the Roman period, a process which is apparently completed sometime during the Anglian period (002DC00171). All of the potsherds from this lower hillwash are from the Roman period. Only one animal bone was recovered from this layer.
