Discussion

A terrace was noted running east-west across the central part of area 2DC, and the fill (generally a hillwash, with occasional chalk inclusions) was removed in a number of arbitrary spits. This is one of three spits removed from the central part of the terrace, and contained 3 sherds of Anglian pottery. When analysed, it appears that the terrace begins to fill (002DC00172 and 002DC00181) during the Roman period, a process which is apparently completed sometime during the Anglian period.
