Discussion

A possible metal working furnace situated to the west of the trackway. It was much disturbed by animal action and ploughing with only part of the base surviving, although it appears to be of a very similar size to furnace 002DA00112. As with 2DA112, a circular wall of chalky clay had been constucted on a base of chalk lumps covered by a chalky clay matrix. Plough damage had dragged some of the furnace wall material up to 1.5 metres to the north. The plan above was drawn from a pre-excavation drawing.
