Discussion

This was one of a number of trenches initially excavated in 1982, in an attempt to locate the Anglian settlement associated with the cemetery to the north. This trench (2M) was successful in finding two complete post hole structures (002M 00500 and 002M 00502) and the eastern end of a third (002CB00370), as well as a Grubenhaus (002M 00501). This cleaning spit removed the remaining ploughsoil in the trench (by shovel scraping), and this was sufficient to define all of the features.
