Discussion

This was the second of three triangular cleaning spits, located in the extreme south-western corner of the area. They were issued with different spit numbers beacause a different excavation technique was adopted here (shovel-scraped in 10cm spits). The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), although it had a higher sand content than 011CE00501 above. The finds included twelve flint objects (blades and flakes) and two beaker sherds. One further spit was excavated (011CE00505). A cremation pit (011CE00504) was defined by this spit.
