Discussion

This was the first of a number of spits in a triangular section, excavated to establish the profile of the sequence of enclosure ditches. It was located in the southern central part of area 11CE, against the baulk which separated area 11CE from 11CD to the south. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). No real definition of features was achieved, and a further spit was required (011CE00571).
