Discussion

This spit was located in the south-western part of area 12AB, and was excavated to remove any remnant ploughsoil and to define a number of features indicated by the geophysical survey data. The area was initially forked and then shovelled, due to the prevailing dry conditions at the start of the 1995 season. At least ten phases of enclosure ditch were defined, as well as Grubenhaus 012AB07003. Finds included a copper alloy Roman key-ring.
