Discussion

This was the first spit taken across the area which had previously been the baulk between areas 12AA and 12AB (removed by machine later in the 1995 excavation season). The spit was attempting to define the anomalies detected by the high resolution geophysical survey. The only objects found were 2 late Roman sherds and a tooth segment from a single sided composite bone comb. Further definition was required (spit 012AB00819).
