Discussion

This was in effect a box section across the sequence of enclosure ditches 011BA07130, to establish the profiles of the ditches. It was excavated by shovelling then trowelling, and was taken down in three layers, with the infrequent finds being three-dimensionally recorded for each layer. The material removed was almost pure sand, although parts were a loamy sand (Munsell colour 10YR 4/4). The spit also defined small pit 011BA00116.
